Trey's First Vocational Day- Quebec City Fire Department

 With Caserne 13 crew.
With Chef Simon Bolduc.

Bonjour! Trey had his first vocational today with the Quebec City Fire Department, more properly known as Ville de Quebec Protection contra l'incendie. I started with a visit to Caserne 13 in the morning. Caserne 13 houses the Hazardous Materials Intervention Team and a Quint. Met Chef du Matieres Dangereuses Simon Bolduc for a tour of the station. Then I was allowed to assist in calibrating several meters, which we use to detect and measure HazMats. They had several of the same meters as we do in Loudoun County, and they have a few we don't and vice versa. It was interesting to see some of the different meters they have, some tailored to specific hazards they may have to deal with.

Caserne 3.

After the morning checkout, Chef Bolduc took me on a quick tour of a few other casernes. First, we visited Caserne 3, which is the oldest station still in use in Quebec City. They house an Engine, a Ladder Truck, and cross-staff a water rescue team. Then we went to Caserne 1, which is downtown Quebec. They staff a Tiller and an Engine. Lastly, we visited Caserne 2, which houses the Rescue and another Tiller unit. Then we went back to Caserne 13 for the remainder of the day, but made a brief stop to get lunch on the way and had poutine- the signature dish of Quebec consisting of fries, gravy, and cheese curds.

After the vocational day, we ate at Ciel! (Heaven), a revolving restaurant on the top floor of a hotel in Quebec City. Excellent views, with great food, and wonderful company!
